An Update

Just wanted everyone to know that things have evened out somewhat...Alan is still having problems with his shoulder, but we realized he had injured it while moving some heavy boxes in the garage...we both have appointments this next Tuesday for check ups and have let the doctor know about his injury.....Xrays showed nothing unusual but he has said, he heard popping noises so it may be damaged cartilage...he forgets how old he is sometimes...

wanted to share with you another site with free primitive patterns. I have downloaded a few myself..and know you will enjoy Twigs and Sprigs These patterns would be good for not only stitching, but for many different crafting mediums so hope you will take a look

This is just one example..and I give her full credit...cute huh? I was thinking this would make a darling anniversary or wedding stitchery....just a thought......

On the Home front....

Wow...didn't realize I hadn't posted anything for awhile.Sorry about that..my husband has been ill and life has been a little overwhelming....its nothing real serious (at least we don't think so) he went to the emergency room on Sunday, and they checked out his heart which was ok.....alot of pain in his shoulder and arm...its still bothering him and he's having quite a time getting an appointment at the clinic.....he's been on the phone today for hours trying to talk to a human...with no results so we may have to drive there just to make an appointment....
I haven't done much stitching...I did finishing and listed another Bless Our Home black work stitchery.....this design has been the most popular....

and am working on another of the ones that I gave away last month......but because of the family health problem..I won't be having a February giveaway this month..sorry about that..hopefully things will look up and we will have a March one.....
I wanted to share with you something a little different......I discovered these wonderful patterns for making greeting cards with stitching...they are so simple and yet beautiful.....here is the link to the website
....Stitching Cards...there are an assortment of free patterns and the others are at very low cost and come as a PDF file......you only need to get some nice card stock to start making some lovely cards....

of course, you can put your own touch to these...perhaps even prim the paper a little and use more primitive colors......but in any case, I thought these were really nice...I love paper crafts......

Wednesday News

I just ordered this cute pattern from Bird Brain......you get all 3 designs, including the mouse!...we have 3 cats and love each one of them..they are all rescues......I would like to have one more but time will tell...I will be stitching these up and offering the photo one as a special order..be glad to put a photo of your favorite feline into the stitchery.....

.I can also do these in black if you are not partial to redwork...black goes with everything....I really liked the stitchery for the poem..

.."In a perfect world, every home would have a cat..and every cat would have a home"....plus from every sale of the pattern, a donation is made to animal rescue.....

This is Tommy....he's a little bigger than this photo.....very sweet and gentle..he dearly loves to lay in the sun and hunt for mice......

This is Bandit....we got her from a rescue group..she's a Norwegian Forest Cat......a diva and queen of the group...doesn't take much from the others and they know it.....loves to sit by the computer and supervise....

and finally, this is Tuppence...we call her Tuppie.....she is the sweetest of the bunch....the most affectionate cat we've ever had...likes nothing better than sitting on your lap....I think she has the most beautiful eyes...she's a tabby.....both Tommy and Tuppie were found by my husband at a foreclosed house...the owner had left them behind as well as 3 kittens....we found homes for the kittens and kept the two older cats.....(of course, all our animals are spayed and neutered)...

I kinda lost my mojo over the holidays and am slowing getting back to stitching......I did list a few things in the Etsy shop.....and am working on a candle wrap which is something new for me....

Here is the Valentine candle mat I just listed....think it turned out well..finally getting the hang of stitching in circles! This pattern is from Primitive Stitches...and yes, its beaded too.....
I also listed this lovely runner that I picked up at an estate sale...had it for awhile and it now needs a new home....

Haven't posted this week...seems like the week between Christmas and New Years can have a bit of a let down feeling.....at least in our house....plus we've been busy with our locksmith business which is absolutely amazing to me...I am encouraged that this next year will be a good one..and hope your 2012 will be good also...

I haven't done any stitching...today I put alot of the Christmas decorations away...packed them in several boxes..we still have the tree up, outside lights are still there and our little Christmas village, but everything else is gone.....

This next year, I hope to complete the embroidered quilt that was started for our grandson, Jayden...plus do more embroidery and stitching....a neighbor gave me a beautiful tablecloth to embroider ....plus printed blocks for a queen size bed. My DIL for Christmas gave me a gift card to Michaels so guess I will spend it on floss....I've cleaned them out several times of their black floss with all the black work I do!

Before I go for today..wanted to tell you all about an after Christmas sale....EweNmePrintables is having a wonderful $1.00 sale of all her Christmas printables.....and as I've ordered her designs , I can highly recommend them....she has printables of all types..from feedsack logos, to tea and coffee envelopes, printable game boards, bottle cap images, etc.

Dollhouses and Miniatures

I know most of you are so busy getting ready for Christmas and other holidays...as I am too, not only getting things ready but we've been fairly busy with our regular locksmithing......all our presents are about bought or made so we're in good shape.....trying to relax and enjoy the lights and sounds..

..I've been looking at different artists and crafters for inspiration for next year......
as a little girl, I enjoyed doll houses and although we didn't have much money, I tried to make my own several times...using toothpaste caps for lamp shades, stamps for pictures, tiny books made from paper and teen idol photos, etc. wish I had a photo of the house now!
I found on Etsy one of the most interesting of miniature artists and wanted to share...

she creates these wonderfully detailed doll houses...little works of art really.......I just am in love with them....and she even walks you through her creative process on her blog.....Cinderella Moments is her Etsy shop and her blog is Shop Cinderella Moments at this time, she's working on a new house called "Someday My Prince will Come" and you can see just how these beautiful little houses come together.....
will I ever try to make one? I don't know..it sure would be fun!

this little house would be welcome at our house for sure...

all of her houses are made from wood, rather than cardboard.The little snowman just sets this little house off, doesn't it? darling in a Christmas arrangement..or as a centerpiece....

When I was little (again another story) my parents went downtown to a department store and bought my grandparents the most wonderful clock....I remember it well...the display was by the escalators....the clock case was a little house, with clapboards and a picture window on one side ..where you could see Granny in a rocking chair with a fireplace in the background ..when the clock was working, Granny would rock back and forth with a light in the fireplace to simulate the flames..so cute! My grandparents had it on their TV for years...until sadly there was a break- in and it was stolen along with several other clocks.....I looked for years for a replacement and found one on Ebay which we have.....the clock doesn't work right now although I did get it repaired...it ran for about a year and then quit...I still cherish it.....I don't have a photo of ours but here is an auction listing with one just like it....Haddon "Home Sweet Home Clock"...see, told you I like miniatures!

Sale at "My Primitive Saltbox" and a Recipe

I ordered several patterns and wanted to share as many are on sale at My Primitive Saltbox......so cute! I haven't ordered the reindeer yet, but am sorely tempted....she is having a $2.00 sale which is a steal so please be sure to check the shop out...I don't have time to make these now but after the holidays plan on making some for next year......these holidays seem to creep closer and closer to each other, don't they?

I haven't been stitching ..trying to crochet some stocking caps for gifts, and getting the house decorated seems to take up my free time....we've been busy with the locksmith business on and off, also. So thankful for any work we get.....yesterday we drove over 160 miles round trip doing several jobs!

I will soon be doing alot of baking, and candy making.....if you are looking for good cooky and goody recipes, there is no better place than Razzle Dazzle Recipes...
There are all types of recipes from home baked breads to teas and other drinks to food gifts you can make for co workers, teachers or neighbors......one year, I made the following from the site...

Rainbow Bean Soup Mix in a Jar

Ingredients for a pint jar:

1/2 cup or more of each of the following beans

Dried red beans

Dried split peas, or lentils

Black beans

Seasonings:

Mix and place in a thin sealed plastic bag,

1 Tbsp. dried minced onion
1 Tbsp. beef bullion granules
1 Tbsp. dried parsley flakes
1 tsp. dried basil
1 tsp. powdered lemonade mix with sugar
¾ tsp. chili powder
½ tsp. garlic powder
½ tsp. pepper
½ tsp. dried oregano

Place ingredients in jar in this order:

Place 1/2 cup of each type of beans in jar in the order listed above.
Top with seasoning bag. Gently flatten bag so it can be seen from all sides of jar.
Put lid on jar.
Decorate jar.
Attach recipe to jar.

Recipe for Rainbow Bean Soup

Remove seasoning packet. Set aside.

inse beans. Place beans in a large microwave safe dish. Cover with water 1” to 2” over top of beans. Cover dish loosely with plastic wrap. Microwave on high 10 minutes, rotating after 5 minutes. Drain and rinse beans very well. Place beans in a large pan.

Add 4 cups of water and 1(14 oz) can crushed tomatoes and seasonings from packet. (you may choose to also add 1 small can of chopped ham.) Cover, bring to a boil. Lower heat, cover pan and simmer 1 ½ hours or until beans are tender. Stir occasionally.

Makes 12 cups of soup.

A New Discovery in Glass

I was doing a search yesterday for some small easels and found this wonderful Artfire artist who does very nice things with glass....(she also sells mini easels and I ordered two from her for a project) thought I would share her shop in case someone is looking for a special gift....I especially liked this pretty candle holder...her prices are very good also and she has fast shipping..the two easels I ordered are already on their way and I just ordered them last night! Imagine It in Glass

Christmas Card Projects

Better Homes & Gardens has some of the nicest ideas for using old Christmas cards..we don't get as many as we used to with the advent of ecards so when we do get them, I like to use them in some way...I collected quite a few but after last years disastrous garage fire....lost most of them so I'm back to square one..but if you have some...look at the wonderful ornaments using canning jar rings (we do have tons of those here) cute, cute, cute!

I like these little trees too....we don't have much space for them but I know you might.....easy and fun to create...not much time involved either........

These little card blocks are darling also..in fact..all the projects are creative and wonderful....alot of inspiration here too so head on over to Christmas Card Projects....

Thoughts about Crocheting

I love to stitch as this blog attests to..but do love crochet also....I learned to crochet on my own...my mother didn't but grandma did...however, she passed away before I got the chance to learn from her.....it wasn't until I was married, and in a church group that I learned......crocheting is easy and not difficult..at least not the basic stitches......there is such a wide variety of yarns now to choose from.....
On Etsy there are many wonderful crocheted items.....
just look at these nice dishcloths!

In this cold weather....there are so many things you can make..from scarves, hats, mittens, etc...I just love this crocheted cowl....

A site I just discovered a few weeks ago..has tons of patterns...many free.....Maggies Crochet ..what I like is the videos so you can actually see how do the stitches.......I had to learn reading patterns and books!

Home Made Simple

Here is a very interesting and cute idea for a quick holiday craft...if you have a little extra fabric to use...this would be wonderful for children and adults to make...your own fabric pine cones!...you can get the directions and template here at Home Made Simple...Home Made Simple has many free ideas and directions for many types of crafts and decorating.....

We've been drying apples from our trip to apple country, Oak Glen, Ca...and I am thinking of drying more for something like the above wreath...we tend to decorate with natural items...I do like the sparkly glittering ornaments but they don't fit into our house very well. If you are like me....you like to save buttons...I have several jars of them....here are some creative ideas to use them....above is a perpetual button calendar......I love the green and blue buttons....you can find directions for this at here...

Another fun craft to do with buttons is this fall button branch..looking at this, my mind went to family trees and this could be adapted to show family member photos amongst the "leaves"..just a thought...

Glitter Houses

I just discovered these darling vintage style glitter houses....are they not wonderful? I can imagine a mantel filled with them, with fairy lights all around...
If you'd like to make one (or more) I found an online webpage with complete instructions, and two PDF files with patterns......Building a GlitterHouse....and I did a search on Etsy of assorted glitter houses if you'd rather......GlitterHouses on Etsy

As they can be made with recycled materials, it would be a wonderful project for older children......

If you're interested in the history behind these little gems........they started appearing around the turn of the last century..in mail order catalogs...and here is a link for the full history with photos which is fun and fascinating to read. Christmas village

Thanksgiving embroidery

Antique Patterns

I have posted before about the 1886 patterns that are available online here....but I was always stymied on how to transfer them until Bird Brain came up with the Sticky Fabric Solvy which makes transferring easy...
I've been working on this antique pattern ....its a little difficult and I wasn't happen with their shoes but then realized back in the 1880s, the patterns were more elementary..... when its finished, and I take off the fabric solvy, it won't be so yellow, more tea stained....these old patterns have such an antique feel to them!

You may notice on the side of the blog, I have a list of free stuff...free pattern links, etc. I am a frugal person at heart..always have been...and I LOVE free things..guess that is why I like to do these monthly giveaways..anyway..another free crafting site is FaveCraft.....they are giving away free holiday ebooks to everyone so thought I'd put the link here for you. I got mine!...They also have tons of giveaways and ideas for free, or low cost crafting..ideas for children and adults so please check it out..with the economy the way it is...and the holidays fast approaching...handmade items are always nice and now is the time to get started!

Something I made last year..and cost me all of about $15.00 was this gathering of pinecone and rag ball basket.....I think it turned out really well....and I can hardly wait to put it out on the table this year......I gathered the pinecones through the year as we don't often see pinecones here in the desert....I found some sytrofoam balls at an estate sale that I scooped up for all of .25 cents and the basket came from a foreclosed house we rekeyed..the only part that actually cost me was for the homespun fabric, I got several yards at Walmart and the battery operated mini lights..which were the most expensive...I found the berry sprigs at the thrift shop....the whole basket looks much better than this photo....

I have subscribed to Better Homes and Gardens for years......and this year they have really done something nice (not that they always are nice) with this great sideshow of low cost (sometimes free!) fall crafting......so I wanted to share the link with you.....Creative Crafts that Recycle

alot of great ideas here....some using old sweaters, to old magazines and fabric you may have..one of my favorites is this fabric bowl using fabric scraps..

I also have a new candle mat I just need to stitch the backing to and other items coming in the next few weeks....

A neighbor came by yesterday and gave me a bag of goodies....a lovely round tablecloth to embroider, some baby blocks for a quilt, and a large collection of printed blocks for a queen size quilt...couldn't hardly believe it! .....the tablecloth is the right size for our round table, we have a queen size bed plus a new grand baby.....

I've been out of sorts this week with a stomach bug...plus trying to help hubby with locksmithing and we've really been busy.....so have taken a week or more off from stitching........feeling better every day. I don't often get sick any more but when I do, its very miserable....
today, being Saturday was a wonderful day, no work for once, and I actually felt like I got a few things done while recuperating... but I had a pile of unfinished candle mats to stitch and stitchery to frame so worked a bit on getting caught up this weekend...

Black Work

I just finished this little black work stitchery as a special order....its a Homeberries pattern....

its for a newly weds first home in their black and white bath....as a shower gift....I will be framing this in a black frame of course.....black and white are so striking....

this is how the top of our piano looks....plus I have black work on the walls also....

Its a nice change...I had some quilt pieces up there before...but they were looking tired....we have mostly white walls..I'd like to paint but its not a option right now....somehow the black work makes the walls look a little better, or maybe its my imagination.?

I am going to be working on setting up a new Etsy store within the next month or so.....it will be called the same name as this blog..Sweet Home Stitchery.....I will have all my stitchery there...black and red work...plus some special new things....stitchery includes crocheting, knitting....applique, and quilting.......

I embroidered this Bird Brain pattern using the Fabric Solvy I posted about before...its a great product....no trouble applying it onto the fabric...and its easy to remove by washing your completed work in warm water..it just melts away! I did make sure my needles were sharp to get through both layers but other that that, its wonderful stuff.....and I highly recommend it to my readers....

New Candle Mat, Fabric Solvy and the Ingalls Collection

I've been working on some fall embroidery and just listed this candle mat..you will find it under..ta da..candle mats! I also stitched up some pumpkin tags which will come out later in the week....picture doesn't do this justice....the colors are much prettier....

I also wanted to mention a product that Bird Brain has on their website..I just order a sample to see how well it works...as it is now, I have to use a window to put the pattern on fabric, using the window as a light box. As you probably know if you'd tried it..its effective but rather awkward.....Bird Brain has a printable film for fast design transfers...its called Sticky Fabri-Solvy....you print the pattern on your computer using this film that has a paper backing instead of paper..then carefully peeling the backing off and finger pressing the film onto your fabric....stitching complete, the film can be trimmed off and the rest will come off when you wash your stitching....It sounded interesting as I have quite a few vintage patterns from the 1880s and have wanted to stitch them as pillows but couldn't figure out how to transfer the designs..this may be the answer! I ordered one sheet as a sample and its on its way so will let you know how I like it.....
Here is one of the patterns I thought would make an excellent bed pillow....

as they are over 100 years old, no copyright protection any more so feel free to look through the hundreds of patterns.....its a real kick actually....

Monday Musings..runners and pillowcases

I find alot of vintage linens here in our area...we have a large senior/retirement community with estate sales starting on Wednesday through Saturdays most weeks......I found this embroidered runner at such a sale...I loved the butterflies....and the pretty narrow crocheted trim...I guess I'm getting old because I can remember going to Woolworth's and finding many of this type of printed runners and doilies ready to take home to embroider....I can't find anything like this at Michaels or Jo Anns now...only online at Herrschners and my friends online store The Calico Spice Shop....its rather sad as its how I first learned how to embroider...at that time, the blank goods could be bought cheaply and the skeins of floss were very cheap too.

Guess I was always an old fashioned girl because as a teen, I embroidered pillowcases and put them away in a hope chest...as well as other linens....we used the pillowcases for years after we married..do girls do that anymore? probably not.....but if you'd like to embroider a set of cases for yourself or as a gift...look at the above sites..actually the Spice Shop has quite a few and she's running a little sale right now....and they are all USA made cases....she has children's pillowcases too...which make nice gifts for the grandchild.....

I am still going through boxes, finding goodies and will get more listed very soon....I did list two items today in both the Treasure Chest and the Pottery posts........and have done more embroidery......I found a set of vintage pillowcases that are so pretty.....bluebirds and ribbons....I won the set on Ebay a few years ago, put it in a box and promptly forgot it ....the pillowcases are an ecru color, trimmed with lace....

the cotton fabric is especially fine and soft..a high thread count.......

and I really like the lace also.....

Ebay is a great place to find vintage linens, sometimes in lots...and I love finding old things to finish!

I am downsizing so please check under vintage stitchery and also the pottery sections...adding new things almost daily as I go through boxes.....lots more to come!

I am redoing this selling blog and have deleted many of the precious posts.... remodeling and refreshing going on....last years fire is still lingering a little but the end is in sight....that emergency has effected me in many ways, a time to reorganize and reflect..

The Once Upon a Fairyland store is not to be..Jackie emailed me and said she is closing the shop..sadness as I thought it was beautiful....I had finished 7 redwork towels to send her but her loss will be someones gain as I will be listing them here soon.......

Here you can see the damage...this could possibly be repaired as its such a rare and pretty cloth...I normally wouldn't list damaged goods but as this is such a collectible..I know someone will love it just as it is, or have it repaired...in fact, the center could be framed as its in perfect condition....
